This is a LIE. (As Dolores Umbridge would say.)
Seriously, though, this Hello Kitty is not 8 inches tall. It is the size of a regular Beanie Baby, around 6 inches tall. When I opened my package I was somewhat disappointed.
Someone needs to buy a new ruler.

When it arrived, there was a large hole in the seam. However, the hole isn't that noticeable and can be easily fixed.

Beanie Baby of Hello Kitty was purchased for my grand daughter. Plan to put it with more Hello Kitty items I am giving for her birthday. The birthday party theme is Hello Kitty and she is a fan.....so everything should be a big hit! The beanie baby is adorable and not a knock off....it's a Ty. The price was good and I have no complaints.

I love this Hello Kitty's nautical overalls. Just another thing that makes her so incredibly cute! I got this for my collection and it is totally worth it. Some people say the sizing is incorrect, but mine was the same so I have no complaints. However, I purchesed mine offline, so what you see is what you get.

I'm 30 and this is on my desk at work. How much fun is this toy? Short of sounding like I'm 53 cards short of a full deck, Hello Kitty and I converse often. Educational value? Well, as previously mentioned I'm 30. But if this toy was with me in college perhaps I'd have more than a two-year degree. Durable? My stress level has been fairly high recently and Hello Kitty is still intact; that gets two thumbs up from me for durability.
Overall I would recommend this toy for anyone over the age of 13, because according to Amazon that's how old you must be to review it.
